] I'm finding it fascinating how many incidents there are in JA's family that made it into her books. The obvious one that I think most people were familiar with is her brother Edward; his being taken on the Knight's honeymoon is reminescent of Julia being taken on Maria Bertram Rushworth's honeymoon. And the subsequent adoption of Edward by the Knights and taking their name reminds one of Frank Churchill.

] The story that was new to me is that of Elizabeth Austen being turned into Mrs. Dashwood, right down to the relations who "easily talked themselves into overiding it (the verbal promise to care for the widow's family)." Can't you just hear Fanny and John Dashwood here?

......Casandra(Mrs. Austen) and her sister Jane going to Bath, considered the most agreeable of places for elderly couples and husbandless women....Shades of Northanger Abbey.
