Please excuse my blunder. i read the book and then returned it to the library so did not have it as a reference. Just assumed other characters had called her "Lucia" as well.
] I'm not sure that Lucy's full name is "Lucia." I think Charlotte just calls her that because they're travelling in Italy, and it's the Italian version of her name. I read it as an affectation on Charlotte's part.
I see. A bit like Cecil affecting a cosmopolitan or was it continental naughtiness? (I loved that line.) The pains of not possessing the novel. Anyway I'm kind of glad to have made my previous lunatic post, because it sparked off quite an interesting discussion. Thanks for all your insights.
