In reply to Fanny--may be becoming my favorite Austen heroine . . . posted by Anne P on June 21, 1997 at 12:17:07
] A really close tie to Lizzy. I like her because she is not selfish and she seems to have good discernment. Yeah, she's a little weak but with time she could really toughen up. I'm really interested in seeing how this story turns out.(I've seen the movie, but that doesn't count)

I think I am becoming a Fanny 'fan' as well. I have never read MP before, nor have I seen the movie. I just like the way she sticks to her principles when it really matters, and goes with the flow about other things. I just read the part where she says she could not even consider marrying Henry, and yet is feeling bad because she fears she has disappointed her uncle by standing her ground in that matter. She is acutely aware of all he has done for her and wishes to please him, but her principles won't allow it in this instance. I identify with that dilemma, it has occurred often in my life. Sometimes you just have to take a brave stand on issues at some peril to yourself. Since I haven't finished the book I may be disappointed in how she acts later on, but for now, I'm impressed.
