Me too. Which is why I couldn't get into the trashing Charlotte earlier - I have a lot of sympathy for her. In the end, as George and Lucy discover, she does the right thing - even though it's the wrong thing.

In some ways she reminds me of Miss Bates - forced into the awful predicament of being an unmarried woman in a world which didn't know what to do with them, and obliged to live off her relatives and friends and be eternally grateful because society didn't provide her with any way to justify her own existence. No wonder she manipulated people!
