Question about George's kiss amongst the violets

In the book, all it says is "He stepped quickly forward and kissed her." I always imagined that he kissed her on the lips (but then I saw the movie more times than and before I ever read the book).

BUT now on re-reading I note that in Chapter 11 (Yes that's next week, but I'm sure you're all ahead of schedule ; ) Lucy wakes from her dream with her hand on her cheek. And Chap. 13 she remembers "that touch of lips on her cheek"

So did George kiss Lucy on the cheek rather than the lips?!(Which would still be pretty shocking to Charlotte of course, but certainly would shed a different light on the matter as far as this reader is concerned!)
