I have just been watching the Barchester Chronicles series on TV--part 7 this week. It is based on Barchester Towers and The Warden. It is hilarious--all these clergymen scheming and wheeling and dealing for political power within the church, and backstabbling each other. Obidaiah Slope surely must be more odious that Mr. Collins and Mr. Elton times 10!!!!
The only references to scripture or church doctrine or anything remotely reverent are only as it suits their purpose and furthers their schemes. The only truly devout character seems to be the poor confused bishop!!
