This was the most thoughtful and eloquent analysis of O&L that I have ever read.
The first time I read O&L I was so charmed by the characters and the thought of Oscar and Lucinda being in love, that I rushed to the end of the book and of course, was horrified by what I found. But I adored the characters and the world Peter Carey created, so I spent a lot of time trying to understand why he ended the book the way he did. Your message gives me a lot more to think about.
I attended a question and answer session with Peter Carey after a screening of the movie. I don't know if this is the proper forum to discuss it, but please let me know if you are interested.
Thanks again for your thoughts,
