] Well, here we are at the end of O&L, and while there are plenty of good things I want to talk about, I must get this rant out of my system and hope that someone (Hil? ;-) can help me to accept the ending to this novel.
Cheryl, you've heard this before, so you know I'm not going to be any help! Here's my vocal pout about the ending:
I could take it when he was still kind of in his drugged sleep state and was going down with the ship and thought that the bats flying overhead were angels. If Oscar could have ended that way, then I could have accepted that there was a glimmer of wonderful things for him, even though his life had very little of good things happen, from my perspective. There was something soothing in thinking he had that bit of peace, in going to his death under the misconception that he was already in heaven? It seems like a cool twist, too, that he had spent his entire life in terror of what took his life peacefully in the end - BUT, NO!!! poor Oscar has to realize what's going on, and die in a state of utter panic that he's in the water! BLEH! Bleh, bleh, bleh!!!
How did you put it so well, Cheryl? TTttttthhhhhppppttttthhhhh on Carey!
