And sometimes they are extracted from childhood memories, unbeknownst to the hapless author. I thought I had invented the fearsome Dark Goddess named Kalidah-Axtah. Imagine my amusement at re-reading the Wizard of Oz and finding the fierce beasts named the Kalidahs! I have kept the hyphenated name, but revised the description to make allowance for L. Frank's prior creation!
