Can I admit something?

I ordered O&L on ILL, looked forward to reading it, duly started it, and now I am kind of stuck. I'm having a tough time liking this so far. I'm not too far along (Oscar is at Oxford and is going to the track), but I can't seem to really get into it. I do enjoy some of the detail, but after awhile I just want the story to get moving.

I know that I'm not stupid, so I know it's not that the book is beyond me. Is it just that the style doesn't appeal to me? Is anyone else having a hard time slogging through this? Will all you O&L lovers hate me for this?!
