But Laura, why would relatively passing references to GE put you off another completely different book? Although the religious aspects of the first bit of O&L are difficult for someone like me to take, what it says about religion in the whole is quite different to GE (who, incidently, I don't associate with pushing religion nearly as much as , say, the Brontes). I think we are asked to understand the beliefs, but not adopt them.
