I think Catherine could be pretty firm, though more by running away than by elegant speeches. There's Catherine, running down the street, with Thorpe puffing away wordily behind her (Greg can supply some football terminology for this, I'm sure).

And then the umpire, Mr. Allen, takes him right out of the game...
