Since Valentin is so interested in Sherlock Holmes: he has taken to writing-out English translations of his old Russian copies of Conan Doyle as a means of improving his language skills, and Cathy happens upon a scrap that refers to hiding a dead body or something. She then sees him doing some suspicious digging in the garden. Of course, this is a perfect opportunity to have conversations with double entendres where people get the wrong end of the stick ala Eleanor and Catherine's discussion of "something shocking coming out in London".
