Problem solving through Writing

To what extent did JA use her writing as a form of escapism? All these heroines having happy endings with marriage to nice guys when she herself never married? (Esp. in a time and culture that so emphasized that.)
I can't speak for Jane, but only for myself...when I write something, it generally is to fantasize about having something I can't. Sometimes I only write a few sentences or paragraphs or more....but if I am experiencing something in real life that is troubling me, I do write about it. Recently, I had a problem with my ex husband, and wrote a little satirical piece about him and his wife. Of course, none of what I wrote is likely to happen, but, still, it was a way of escaping what was inescapable (that he's an alcoholic, and a jerk). But at least I was able to laugh at the situation, instead of remaining hurt and angry....
