She wants to consult with Mrs. Allen to find out if it's safe, but Mrs. A. is too busy getting all the kitchen knives very, very sharp and lining them all up in exquisitely neat rows to be able to talk coherently. Henry, however, charms her with his knowledge of cutlery. So she lets Catherine go, lending her a useful paring knife because "One never knows, does one, dear?"
