I started this, but I need your help to finish it! (You can also change the cast if you like.)
Catherine (Neve Campbell), an American high school exchange student, spends a semester in England. Having watched far too much Masterpiece Theater, Cathy expects the English to be polite and discuss literature in a civilized manner over tea and crumpets. Much to her dismay she finds herself staying in ugly modern house in the suburbs with Mrs. Allen (Patricia Routledge), a woman obsessed with candlelight suppers and the Royal Family. Also the other students in her classes just want to hang out in pubs and listen to loud music.
In attempt to find like-minded souls, Cathy attends a Jane Austen discussion group led by Professor Marilyn Butler (as herself). Prof. Butler introduces her to a twenty-something graduate student named Henry, a mysterious, almost allegorical figure (casting suggestions?). Cathy does not understand most of the discussion, but when she laughs at Henry's jokes, he invites her to dinner afterwards in the nearest Indian restaurant where they discuss the merits of vindaloo and discover they share an interest in classic horror movies.
The next day, Cathy finds that her brother James (the blandest male cast of Friends) has arrived from Harvard, also doing a semester abroad. He introduces her to his new best friend from Oxford, John (Jim Carrey) and sister Isabella (Courtney Love) with whom James is obviously smitten.
Pray, continue....
