] As I read it, I thought that yes, Henry was referring to Isabella and Eleanor was referring to Catherine, but when Eleanor spoke she was also continuing a conversation she and Henry had had before in appreciation of Catherine, and she was reminding him of it. No proof in the text, of course, and that (possibly non-existent) conversation may not have discussed C. in terms of matrimony!
I didn't realize until I came to RoP how many of the details of JA's novels I was filling in with my own imagination. I never filled in that scene with a previous conversation, but it would be very consistent with the closeness that I see between E. and H. The realationship between E and H is, for me, one of the many charms of the novel.
