My favorite light reads are Terry Pratchett's Disc World novels which are very silly. Although set on a fantasy type sword and sorcery world they make fun of such things as rock music and government and religion. Among my favorites are Mort (in which DEATH takes an apprentice), Guards! Guards! and Men at Arms.
Also liked Good Omens which he wrote with Neil Gaiman as their take on all the apocalyptic, Omen-type stories that proliferate around this time of the millenium.
The one problem with Pratchett's books is that they have no chapters so that I just keep on reading them since I don't have an obvious place to stop and put the book down.
