I agree with you there, since my view on conspiracies is that in general most people just are not actually clever or organized enough to form them! It's much easier to discover what appears to be a conspiracy among the usual jumble of life than to carry one out.

I think Isabella just went along on her merry way without any serious plan for the future. Perhaps John Thorpe bragged about his friend Morland being much better off than he really was, just as he bragged about Catherine, and so suddenly Isabella and John are both pursuing their separate selfish but complementary courses based on their self-induced misconceptions.

Then "Oh la! Morland's not as rich as we thought, but here's this handsome Capt. Tilney..."
