This is most interesting. The more I study Austen the more I think she hides just under the surface of her plots. But can we deduce the extent of the "Thorpe conspiracy" from parallel plots in Mysteries of Udolpho or other gothic novels she's parodying? Anyone waded through ...Udolpho?
