LOL! I suspect I need to put that at the beginning of many of my posts....
] JA needs to have at least one character in every novel who will (for the most part) be representative of her values, opinions, intelligence, and wit. [-snip-] So, JA used her hero to represent her in this novel.
I woke up this morning wondering whether Henry Tilney was really the man that JA would have wanted to marry, and I would have rushed to the computer to ask this here, but I had to go to work!
Henry is so different from her other heroes, so likeable and down-to-earth, that I too had been wondering whether he was based on someone JA knew or whether he was the ideal that she never met.
But MB's suggestion puts another twist on it. Interesting....
