] I get the feeling that, with the movie, it's a love/hate relationship. I happen to think it's enjoyable, although in no way does it capture all of the irony and humor of the novel.
I too like the movie, though aspects of it were somewhat like David Lynch meets JA. (Well not quite that grotesque, but what was the deal with the cart-wheeling African page boy?)
the movie does a neat, campy job of capturing Catherine's gothic fantasy life.
Yes! I love these over-the-top scenes and the dramatic spooky music. When they showed it on Masterpiece Theatre, the host (was it still Alistair Cooke?) had to explain what happened at the end just in case viewers were confused by the musical cues!
] So, what I guess I'm saying is that it's a fun way to spend an hour-and-a-half to two hours, but if you're expecting a P&P2-type treatment, you'll be disappointed.
Peter Firth ain't Colin Firth! : )
(Peter plays Henry Tilney. Are they related?)
There is also a water scene, but the hero is not involved!
