I get the feeling that, with the movie, it's a love/hate relationship. I happen to think it's enjoyable, although in no way does it capture all of the irony and humor of the novel. Perhaps because the novel has so much "author input" as far as the narration goes (as opposed to lots of dialogue). Some of my favorite discussions in the novel (such as Henry's witty comments on journals and novels) are missing, but the movie does a neat, campy job of capturing Catherine's gothic fantasy life.

So, what I guess I'm saying is that it's a fun way to spend an hour-and-a-half to two hours, but if you're expecting a P&P2-type treatment, you'll be disappointed.
