Don't you think that Georgette Heyer may have taken Catherine as a basis for Arabella? There is the same similar background, some similar character traits, the fact that she is far from her family only with a not-intelligent chaperone, she is mistaken for an heiress. Also: you never know whether Tilney/Beumaris is courting Catherine/Arabella or if they merely flirting.

Of course, the corresponding outcomes for both novels are quite different, and you lack the gothic part in Arabella!
