Undressed ball (a guess)

Until HC leaps into the fray, could an "undressed" ball mean a regular ball with evening wear, as opposed to a "dress" ball, which would be in costume (i.e. Mrs. Allen as Marie Antoinette, Catherine as Juliet, etc.)?
