] Who is the master of ceremonies and how come he is introducing Catherine a partner? Help!!!

According to the essay on NA in the Cambridge Companion to Jane Austen, Catherine is introduced to Henry "altogehter prosaically, as a dancing partner, by the Master of Ceremonies whose job it is to make such introductions. Romantic fiction is implicitly debunked by this event..." presumably because romantic fiction would have them meet in far more exciting circumstances, maybe like Frank and Emma.

Apparently the name by which Henry refers to the MC, "Mr King" is real. My copie notes that James King was MC of the lower rooms from 185 - 1805 when he became MC of the upper rooms.
