In response to It was abominable! Mansfield P..., written by KAREN L on December 25, 1997 at 18:22:45

] I just finished rewinding the second tape of the BBC adaptation of Jane Austen's 'Mansfield Park' It seemed so...so...well, perhaps I didn't like it because I was watching it early morning ( 1 am-)...I found the acting sometimes unbearable...so fake...sometimes I laughed at it (couldn't help it)...doesn't make me want to read the book...Fanny seems such a prude...I happen to like Lizzie and Emma's sprightliness much better.
] Is there another better adaptation?? Or am I being too critical???-KAREN L

This adaptation was made in the 70's, I think, so the production values are much poorer than movies made more recently. This detracts severely from the watchability.

That said, I think that they did a very creditable job. The movie stays quite close to the book, which is always important to me.

There have been rumors about another adaptation in the works. I sincerely hope so. And, I hope that it is at least 6 hours long so that the story will not have to be butchered.
