In response to It was abominable! Mansfield P..., written by KAREN L on December 25, 1997 at 18:22:45
] I just finished rewinding the second tape of the BBC adaptation of Jane Austen's 'Mansfield Park' It seemed so...so...well, perhaps I didn't like it because I was watching it early morning ( 1 am-)...I found the acting sometimes unbearable...so fake...sometimes I laughed at it (couldn't help it)...doesn't make me want to read the book...Fanny seems such a prude...I happen to like Lizzie and Emma's sprightliness much better.
] Is there another better adaptation?? Or am I being too critical???-KAREN L
a new adaptation was currently available!
I share your pain; fortunately, I read the book prior to viewing the video! I positively wince whenever Lady Bertram opens her mouth to speak, and I must admit to fast forwarding on a number of occasions. I can't decide if the actors/actesses were miscast or just not my interpretation of how they should have appeared. Mary Crawford is wearing a mop, for goodness sakes! Okay, so maybe I'm being a little harsh, but if it has not already been produced, a new adaptation of Mansfield Park goes on my Santa list for next year! :-)
