] Part of it might be that both Jane and Frank were happy (mostly) with their engagement, but Edward wanted out and was stuck in his.

So you think that the author's opinion is intruding?--That Mrs. Weston, etc. were unhappy about the fact of the engagement, though the people were not bad choices; and Edward's family were upset about his choice. Maybe JA had to show some moral outrage in Emma, but there was enough already in S&S to not belabor the point.
