] ...the novel's value is dependent upon its relation to Jane Eyre. If you're interested in a 20thc. interpretation and reaction to JE, you'd probably find WSS interesting. WSS explicates some implicit themes in Bronte's book, yet it's a very short work; it can't tackle everything.

I remember being intrigued by the "prequel" aspect to the movie because I like JE so well. Who wouldn't want to know more about Bertha and Rochester. However, the movie added absolutely nothing to my understanding. Perhaps, the novel would be better...
