OK, Henry Crawford is pretty dastardly. But why did he waste his time on Fanny? He went to great lengths and great expense to impress her, then leaves and destroys Maria's life. I just don't get why he would waste his time, other than thinking he had the power to make her love him. Would he have abandoned her if he had succeeded? (I think so). What do others think?
