It's only fair on Dickens' behalf to comment that he was very much in favor of structural reform and worked and wrote for it.
As for the industrialist closing the factory on Xmas day, I can only say a small step in the right direction is better then standing still. I don't have any further info about that industrialist but I'd like to think that perhaps he started seeing his workforce as the human beings they were, but even if he didn't ,that reading of A Christmas Carol caused some change (however small) in this guy which benifitted ( however little) some people who would not otherwise have.
And that is good!
