] OK, lets get the ball rolling here.
] So what do you think. Is it great literature or sentimental schmaltz?
] Or something in between?
The book has never been out of print. The theatrical adaptations began just one year after publication. It saved Dickens from financial ruin. It is loved by millions. Every year thousands more are introduced to the story, and thousands fall in love with it. It seems hardly a year goes by without some new version of it is done for the mass media. Countless amatuer productions are written and performed to appreciative crowds every year. Only "Merry Christmas" is more widely recoginized as a Christmas phrase than "Bah, Humbug".
If all this doesn't show that it is great literature, then what would your definition be?
