] I wondered and wondered about this play as I was reading Mansfield Park>.
] Then I discovered that the Oxford Illustrated edition, edited by R.W. Chapman , actually prints the English play (a translation and adaptation by Mrs Inchbald of the German play by Kotzebue) as an appendix! And that it was in my library.
] I've now read it and it is extremely interesting, in light of what goes on in the novel. Of course a silly melodrama, but I think Mrs Inchbald did a good job.
] The text would be a worthy annex to the Jane Austen pages, if it does not exist there? Does it?
] Alternately I could give a brief synopsis, if desired by the lady managers of Pemberley, which might find a place somewhere in the archives?
One of the managers of Pemberley is a man!
We did in fact do a discussion of Lovers Vows during our read of Mansfield Park not so long ago, which I think will still be in the archives.
I'm not sure if Henry has Lovers Vows on the JA info page - I couldn't find it on a quick scan, but that means nothing!
So hold off on a summary just at the moment Stolzi till we see what we already have... we don't want to use up too many megs unnecessarily....
