] Yes, I have envisioned such a scene myself. But Maria is shocked that Elizabeth thought it was Lady C. If Maria had not known herself until just ten seconds earlier, then I fail to see the justification for being shocked.


Perhaps Charlotte's letters home gave her detailed descriptions of everyone in the de Bough household. Or, Mr. Collins could've given discourses on the inhabitants of Rosings in addition to fireplaces and shelving.:-)
