What does it matter that he is a character in a book? To me, he is as real as any person actually ALIVE (the meaning of the word can be an object of an endless discussion) and I suspect that to many other people here as well (was it Jean Little who said, that when asked how "real" are her characters, she replied: "To me, they are more real than you are")
