That doesn't make any sense, does it? I believe I read it the way you did, too, just because it felt more true.


] Is it a play on the relation between affection and affected behaviour, affectation? Lizzy does seem to regard such courting by poetry as affected behaviour that is a turn-off?

Might make sense, though Austen doesn't often go in for encryption like that... or do I read like Bingley writes and am missing little nuggets of gold?
