The producers estimated at least 11 servants for the Bennets. The Gardiners may have had more. The little tikes came prepared. Must have been nice:-)

] I have since read Bob S.'s post above and am inclined to agree that they were trying to pick up Lizzy's spirits. (Not to mention, of course, that JA didn't want Jane on that trip. The chance Pemberley meetings would have become rather complicated!)
maybe Jane got carriage sick...
