] That, and Lizzy seems to be the rambler. The impression I have always received is that Jane would rather stay quietly at home. Elizabeth appears to be more adventurous than Jane.
Jane looked after the Gardiners' children while they traveled. Of all the babysitting options we know about, I'd guess Jane is the only caretaker they'd trust. (Mrs. Bennet could probably do it, but not without great distress.)
