Just thought I'd let you know that your suggestions were positively wonderful. I didn't have time to use Bookserve (I promise to order my next batches of books from it) because I need to hand out my gifts THIS Saturday--don't ask, my family is nuts.

This is what I got--it's quite a haul--thanks to the "bargain books" aisles at most stores!

Girl (11 years old): Little Women (with Winona Ryder on the cover) and Diary of a Young Girl. What a great pairing these two make!!!

Boy (13 years old): Last of the Mohicans. In looking for Treasure Island, I stumbled on a reissued series of classics by Scribners with illustrations by N.C. Wyeth, originally published in 1919. These books are gorgeous. I may buy them for myself (Treasure Island, Kidnapped, Robinson Crusoe, The Yearling and Robin Hood). They weren't cheap, but maybe Bookserve....

Twin Girls (aged 9): Black Beauty, the Secret Garden, the Little Princess and the complete Anne of GG...

I know I didn't solicit your suggestion on the last one, but I knew what I was getting my 16 year old niece. What other than Rebecca and, of course, P&P with the adorable CF on the cover....I may lend her my tapes....I think Possession would be too much for her or even for my 19 year old niece!!

Thanks so much for all your great suggestions--and I plan to keep them for next year's shopping list!
