Balance in matrimony

Ann, you make some very good points in your posting, especially regarding balance in matrimony, i.e., that for JA it's not only a romantic and sexual union, but an economic one as well. But I am not so sure I agree that JA "criticized the lack of passion in the relationship" between Edward and Elinor. Would you expand on that? I have never gotten the impression that there was any lack of passion there, and I have always had the impression that JA approved the match in all ways. In light of the comments on balance, this last point is rather interesting, as Edward and Elinor married on a rather small income--though they did pay attention to the economics of the situation in waiting till they were certain of being able to live before they actually took their vows.
