] Hi, Lea, I hope you settle right in here and enjoy exploring this and the other boards. Have you come across our Newcomers' Orientation, which will tell you all you want to know?
Helen, Thanks for the welcome! Sorry my messages look so jumbled, I'm still a little new to all of this. I think I've read parts of the Newcomer's info, but obviously I haven't learned the fine art of "snipping", yet. I'm a computer programmer, so surely, I can figure this out!
] I think that it is this clear Christian faith underpinning Fanny that makes her the least accessible of JA's heroines, because if you do not share, or at least understand, Fanny's belief-system, you will find it hard to comprehend her behaviour. MP as a whole throws up some very profound challenges to society's norms of what makes people good, attractive, or "right".
I agree with you. Fanny is more "inaccessable" to those who don't share her religious beliefs. I know from personal experience, that when someone doesn't share my belief in God, they don't fully "understand" me, either. I admit that Fanny is one of the least "interesting" of JA heroines, but virtue is less "interesting" than "vice" to most. Also, I think I need to say that I don't think Fanny is perfect, neither am I, but I am trying to live my life with God as my guide. My mother died of cancer three years ago and my twin sister and I are now raising our brother who was 11 years old at the time. I don't know how I could have gotten through all of this without my faith in God.
