Wickham: respect - maybe; marry - no!

] IMO even if circumstances had been different Lizzy would have never married Wickham. She was flattered by his attentions, she liked him and might have been a little infatuated with him but she never loved nor truly respected him! And if she had loved and respected him (and if he had proposed) I don't think she would have let money (or the lack of money) stand in her way. But that's a lot of "ifs".


I agree, Constanza, while I think that Lizzy did respect Wickham at least a little for his manners, I think that she would have discovered his faults long before she would have had any really serious thoughts of marrying him.
