] I like Fanny, and I think JA liked Fanny, but I agree that she is just a bit insipid. It's also hard to forgive her for being, not just pained and distressed, but critical in a rather superior way, of her harassed mother's household at Portsmouth.
When she was about to write MP she said something to the effect of "I'm going to create a heroine that no one will much like except myself"
