] Quite frankly, I don't think it is. The "guys" who are here are here because they like Austen, which isn't exactly typically guy pleasing stuff. So I think we should be guided by what we (all of us!) want to read, not by what will please some theoretical guys!.. But thanks for all the suggestions you make, which are great. :-)
You're right, Kate. I shouldn't presume to speak for anyone else. I was just being guided by the male members of my "live" book group, who are almost as enlightened as our Pemberley males. They enjoy a wide variety of novels, but tend to squirm if we propose too many "estrogen reads" in a row! ;-) As an example, we just finished The Stone Diaries. The males admitted that they they liked it, but they would still classify it as a "women's" novel. It's nearly impossible for a good writer to keep his/her voice out of a novel, so I think that in general books by female writers tend to appeal more to women. Now despise me if you dare...;-)
