I can't say I agree with this completely. I think Darcy would rather have planned the whole proposal situation out carefully- (it's who he is), if not perhaps the timing. He did love her and he wanted to get it right, I'm sure. We all know how fastidious he was! I'm sure that a lot of weighing up of pros and cons must have gone into it first- he was marrying a woman so far "beneath him", of course. I think he knew the time to propose was coming. And he did ask her all those questions about Mr Collins and Charlotte's marriage.
