In response to entails again (LONG), written by Laura W on November 25, 1997 at 15:17:32

] ] If Mr. Bennet were to have a grandson before his death, would the child inherit Longburn or would the estate still go to Collins?
]

] The estate would go to Mr. Collins and his male heirs.

(SNIP: Legal limitations on duration of entail...)

] Mr. Bennet's father could not have created the entail because then Mr. Collins would not be a direct descendant of the grantor

Laura -- you're overlooking the possibilities that the person who orginally set up the entail may have created reversions to descendents of his brothers etc. if his own male-line descendants gave out, and/or that when the entail was renewed, it was renewed with reversions to all male-line descendants of the person who originally set up the entail, not just the male-line descendants of the individual who is renewing the entail...
