Aren't they all trying to catch a husband? Going about it in different ways? One way, alluring (or flirting) in a demure way is accepted. Maybe Jane should have been more obvious, since she almost lost Bingley. But the other, out and out flirting was and still is "bad". But Miss Austen clearly rewards the "good" and punishes the "Bad".
