] I always have to laugh at the way he proposes in the first place, mainly because Lady Catherine told him to, and the way he can't believe that she isn't dying to marry him and he refuses to believe she is turning him down.

] Why is it that the biggest nerds always think that they are God's gift to women.

I love the way Jane Austen describes him and explains why he is the way he is -- a combination of his not having been a very "sensible man" in the first place but add to that "the self conceit of a weak head, living in retirement, and the consequential feelings of early and unexpected prosperity."

We have here a man who was not too bright, had very few social skills but won the lottery, so to speak. It gave him the big head! He really is awful!!
