In response to Mr Colins proposal, written by lucie on November 24, 1997 at 19:20:36

Collins does think he's doing her a favor. First, it brings the estate back to her family ( a serious problem for Mrs. B and the girls) and he is a respectable man with a good income and a profession. Don't forget what Darcy said at Netherfield, that they would have a problem marrying well because they had no money or connections. Whiile I agree that Collins was a pompous jerk, he managed to get a nice girl like Charlotte to marry him. She had a better financial situation than the Bennets but felt that Collins was a good match for her. It provided for a good home and security for her. Looking at it from a strictly practical point of view, he was making her a good offer.
] I always have to laugh at the way he proposes in the first place, mainly because Lady Catherine told him to, and the way he can't believe that she isn't dying to marry him and he refuses to believe she is turning him down.

] Why is it that the biggest nerds always think that they are God's gift to women.
